This is a brilliantly evoked drama of the isolated culture of the hard-drinking, deeply religious yet earthily sexual culture of the Meankieli people. Matti and Nilila are best friends growing up in the 60s in a rural part of Sweden. There are miracles, unexpected transvestism, drink and drug-fuelled sex but the boys find a kind of release in a pop group at school. As their musical careers develop one boy is more interested in girls than performing with the group...
