A fascinating and kaleidoscopic impression of the wide variety and vigor of the broad and sprawling nation of South Africa: breathtaking nature, diverse society, and people and cities of every imaginable form, edited to a hypnotic score by contemporary Cape Town composer Campbell Burns. The film is both documentary and abstraction, drawing a unique portrait of the people and landscapes of South Africa through an inventive montage of short and long shots, both slowed down and accelerated, full of close-ups of faces and long sweeping vistas. Taken collectively, they add up to a kaleidoscopic impression of a fascinating country, glimpsed a decade after the emergence of democracy.
