It has been noticed in Burkina Faso, as in many other West African countries, that natural resources are weakening. Drought, sedentarization of the population, intensive cotton exploitation, use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides are just a few of the many factors explaining the phenomenon. If nothing is done to stop the process, an ecological disaster is to be feared in the years to come.
Through this documentary, you will meet those who work the land in the eastern part of Burkina Faso: small or bigger cotton farmers, cattle farmers, market gardeners… Many actors with too few opportunities to express themselves on this matter and whose stories can help better situate the extent of the problem and contribute to finding long-lasting solutions for tomorrow. With the background of the Forum on natural resources management and the cotton industry that took place in Fada in May 2008, this movie lets the concerned actors speak, using an original approach, valuing frank and open testimony about the realities in the field.
The screening will be followed by an audience discussion with a smallholder farmer and a journalist from Burkina Faso.
