To Letná!

To Letná!

(Letná sobě!), various / CZ, 2011
Czech version, 60 min

Letná sobě! is an architectural initiative created as a reaction to a sheer absence of any public debate about current pressing architectural problems of the neighborhood. The goal of the initiative is not only to inform, but also to unite Letná’s residents. Letná sobě! publishes newspaper and other printed materials, organizes lectures, discussions, picnics, walks etc.

Letná is a quarter in the center of the city as well as a world on its own. This historical city quarter has an impressive urban character, a rich cultural life and at the same time, it’s surrounded by large parks. It has got every condition to be one of Prague’s most pleasant places to live. Yet in past few years, we are witnessing certain actions, which ignore, even damage its genius loci. And these actions contribute to the fact, that Letná quarter is an increasingly fragile organism, whose long-term future is dependent on decisions that are being made today. Letná needs a vision and an understanding, which will allow not only to preserve its unique quality, but will enhance it with considered urbanism and high quality contemporary architecture. Letná sobě!, an independent initiative, is trying to identify main problems of Letná today, and, through discussion, to find a path to their solution.
