Love Story

(Love Story), Petra Ludvíková / CZ, 2011
English version / Czech subtitles, 50 min

Desmond is a grown man and that is how he feels and behaves. He likes smoking his pipe and drinking strong tea. Most men talk about their cars but Dessie’s favourite topic is his two shopping trolleys. They are parked in front of his house and he likes fixing all details on them. Desmond is one of the residents of Camphill Clanabogan. It means he is a person with certain intelectual disabilities. He decided to work on his biography. It goes slowly but finally all of the important moments of his life are caught, word by word, as precisely as he was able to remember it. Regarding the background of this story you can see how Camphill works and all people living here: people with learning disabilities, young co-workers and home co-ordinators. A few years ago I spent time in this world which was very new and un-discovered for me. It is a world that beats with its own rhythm and is directed by its own rules. This world is called Camphill. As my 3-months stay here was very inspiring for me I decided to mention it.

This film is full of human interest: merry, playful, but touching as well. The lead will be Dessie and a few selected villagers. We will show their special features. House Coordinators and Co-workers (volunteers) from all over the world will also feature.

The film will also have a strong focus on music, partly because the residents often sing at Camphill but also because the young people listen to popular music. Contact between these two worlds will be made apparent by the choice of tracks. One of the Camphill residents is a walking songbook and jukebox at the same time. Just say the name of a track and he will start singing it in no time. Say any word and he makes it into a song. We often listened to him and his friend, we recorded live music when Camphill celebrations took place and also went out with co-workers to hear live bands.

The screening will be held with personel presence of the director Petra Ludvíková. The discussion will follow the screening.
