In December 2004, a deadly tsunami devastated the coastal regions of several countries in South Asia, killing hundreds of thousands, and destroying the homes and the livelihood of millions. The catastrophe generated a massive wave of support throughout the world, including in the Czech Republic, where tens of millions of crowns were collected in public charity events. What exactly happened to this money, and how did it help to restore normal life in the devastated regions? Who are the people helping the locals get their lives back together? And what is the situation today, 5 years after the tragedy, in the worst affected places?
