(Pianomania - Die Suche nach dem perfekten Klang), Lilian Franck, Robert Cibis / A-D-F, 2009
German / Czech and English subtitles, 93 min

Pianomania is a film about perfection, the love for music, and about a little bit of madness. Stefan Knüpfer, the head technician and a top piano tuner at Steinway & Sons, on his quest for the perfect sound, takes the viewer on a journey into the mysterious world of tones. With humour and without boring scientific expertise, the charismatic hero who is passionate about his work lets the audience peek into his cooperation with the world’s best pianists.

This documentary received multiple awards and gained enthusiastic audience on many international film festivals; it won such awards as Golden Gate Award on the 53th International Film Festival in San Francisco, the award of honour of the jury on the festival EURODOK 2010 in Oslo and the award Semaine de la Critique on the film festival in Locarno.

Thanks to the congenial choice of scenes and impressive snapshots from Vienna, which enchants us with its atmosphere, Pianomania is a symphony both for the eyes and ears - and not only for the admirers of the classical music.

The screening is in partnership with the Austrian Cultural Forum in Prague and the Goethe-Institut Prag.
