(Dark Times), Avinash Deshpande / IND, 2006
Marathi / English subtitles, 30 min
As a traditionally agrarian nation now developing into one of the strongest economies in Asia and the world, India is in a state of quiet conflict. The farmers feel the pressure, as they get marginalised by the stronger segments of the economy. Farmers only make news when they take drastic steps like committing suicide. The cotton growing farmers of Vidarbha in Central India may be representative of the plight of the farmers all over the country.
The screening is in partnership with the Bollywood Film Festival.
