(Filmový večer VŠMU Bratislava), různí autoři / SK, 2009
Slovak version, 93 min
VŠMU is a Slovak film school which has just celebrated its 60th anniversary. Currently there’s an interesting group of young enthusiastic filmmakers who present their works at various festivals around the world.
We’re offering you four documentaries; each of them has its individual poetic quality and expresses its attitudes towards contemporary phenomena in modern perspectives. The authors present with humour the problems of interpersonal communication, family ties or sense of isolation, while they aren’t afraid to work with the form and authenticity of life itself. The films reflect the lives of young people enthusiastic about ideology, but also the faith in human beings themselves, because the circumstances in which they find themselves aren’t always that easy.
I WOULD FIND A CRICKET IN THE GRASS SLOV 2009, dir. Vladislava Plančíková, 18 min., Slovak version For some people, to be a “pioneer” meant tedium; for Stanislav Lubina it was an injustice – during the communist regime the deaf people weren’t a part of public life. Although he never wore a red scarf, he is a full-valued member of society, a graphic designer, husband and father who found his happiness on a meadow full of crickets.
ARSY-VERSY SLOV 2009, dir. Miro Remo, 23 min., Slovak version A story of a mother and her son Luboš who turned the world upside down. Luboš escaped the world of people to live in the biggest possible symbiosis with nature; he’s flown to a planet where only butterflies live – intelligent beings. He devotes all his life-energy combined with an incredible portion of empathy into his amateur photography- and film production. The peak of his fascination by nature is his unique research on bats. In communication with the intriguing upside-down hanging creatures he attempts to reach a maximum understanding between man and animal. His greatest support in both his research and life has always been his mom. However, she’s now over seventy and is naturally worried about her son’s future. “What’s going to become of this child now,” she says. The people who got to “know him” thought that he’s crazy, but only until they have seen a movie upside-down. Now they’re out of their mind themselves!
BYŤ SÁM SEBOU SLOV 2009, dir. Jakub Julény, 24 min., Slovak version The story of the chairman of the newly-founded organization SZM, who finds a perspective in the environment of the bureaucratic structures of the European Union.
MAMMA WHO BORE ME SLOV 2010, dir. Jana Kovalčíková, 28 min., Slovak version When the daughter has heaps of dreams, the life is not a child’s play. To be a mom and an actress at the same isn’t always easy. Katka has her mom. The mom has her mom... A merry-go-round of relationships of three women. Each of them has her ideas. Each of them has her desires. Well, there’s only one mamma!
The screening is in partnership with the VŠMU Bratislava.
