A very intensive story that takes place on a beautiful lake surrounded by a line of trees on which floats a small Buddhist monastery. The film is divided into five chapters, each of which presents one period of human life. With outstanding attention dedicated to visual effects Kim Ki Duk created a unique and at the same time universal story about human soul on its way from innocence to love and evil and ending with enlightenment and rebirth.
