A Chinese bathhouse was never just a place of public hygiene but also a centre of local community. In there people met, made business and settled their disputes. This light-hearted melodrama contrasts idealised solidarity, sensuality and harmony of bathhouses with strict and sterile way of life in the capitalist society of modern China. The story revolves around a young businessman returning to his hometown to meet his father who runs a bathhouse set for demolition.
