France gave birth to film more than a hundred years ago and today it is still one of the world’s centers of cinematography. It is so not only because it produces remarkable films, but also because it hosts the world’s most important film festival. Given the interest and care cinematography enjoys in France, it is hardly surprising that France is the largest producer of short films and that Clermont-Ferrand hosts the largest and most important short film festival. Add this year’s Oscar for French short scripted film Le Mozart de Pickpockets and it should be clear why France was chosen for one of the sections this year.

The Mozart of Pickpockets (Le Mozart des pickpockets), directed by Phillippe Pollet-Villard
