(Crumb), Terry Zwigoff / USA, 1994
English version / Czech subtitles, 119 min
For comic-fans, even this rather minimal title will suffice: Crumb. For the
others we add that legendary “pig” and satirist Robert Crumb (Fritz the
Cat) is one of the living pillars of American independent comics-culture;
his sharp pen has scratched many a taboo. And, Terry Zwigoff is one of
the most intriguing mediums that transmit comics on the silver screen.
By saying this, we certainly don’t mean frilly action ballets of commercially
polished super-puppets; Ziggoff’s approach is the exact opposite.
What he looks for in the drawings in particular is the story itself – that’s
why he finds inspiration mainly in underground comics.
