(Middle of the Moment), W. Penzel - N. Humbert / D - CH, 1995
English-French version / Czech and English subtitles, 80 min
This lyrical documentary exploring nomadic lifestyles reunited legendary guitarist and composer Fred Frith (a 2007 MOFFOM honoree) with Humbert and Penzel, his collaborators on the acclaimed experimental music film Step Across the Border. Over the course of three years, the filmmakers followed three very different sets of wanderers: Tuareg tribesmen in North Africa, the French avant-garde circus Cirque O and expatriate American poet Robert Lax. Frith's score, a collage of ambient sound and field recordings, heightens the raw, stunning beauty of the black and white images, the music revealing the poetry behind the constant movement of things.
