It’s very simple – short films here are made almost exclusively by film school students or amateurs. But if we really consider that short films could be seen as “small” films, in which budding filmmakers, painlessly and without risk, can test their talent and practice the art of filmmaking, it’s clear something is missing. Combine that with the fact that professionally produced short films are more similar to features than school films and it’s more than obvious that Czech film production could really benefit from more experienced filmmakers. This year we will show four films that came into being at Prague’s FAMU film school, four films that give us hope that film talent has not yet left the Czechlands.
