Finally, summer holidays! With great expectations, ten-year old Emma visits her grandmother Dolly in the countryside. Here, she learns about the recent death of her grandmother’s neighbour Klipperbusch. The only living relative, his nephew Albert Gansmann, has already made plans for his inheritance, meaning also that Klipperbusch´s mare Mississippi will be butchered. To rescue the horse from the slaughterhouse, Grandma Dolly buys it from the cheapskate and gives it to Emma as a present. But suddenly Albert wants the horse back. Is it really his love for animals that is driving him? The first children’s film by Detlev Buck, based on the novel by Cornelia Funke, tells an exciting crime story with idyllic summer scenery as a backdrop. The protagonists solve the conflicts with esprit and severity. The film won this year’s German Film Award, the Lola, in the category of Outstanding Film for Children and Youth.
