The Losers | Cakes and Puppets

The Losers | Cakes and Puppets

(Chcípáci), Radek Beran / CZ, 2006
Czech version / English subtitles, 60 min

The puppet film for adults The LOSERS, made by legendary theatre group Cakes and Puppets, is a tribute to garbage and trashy stories. Seemingly fatal conflict is beaten by evidently equally fatal, if not even more fatal, love affair, and not only one but four love affairs. The villain is driven into a corner and the four-time love wins.
Visual side of the film is full of brutal details, revolting scenes alternate with affectionate ones, just like in real life. The puppets move in such an expressive setting that the scene becomes an equal partner. A pulp partner. Film debut of renowned playful fellows does not pretend it just plays. It flirts. Be a witness to the new, ageing wave of puppet film.

Film description: Grilled chicken presents: fatal clash between good and evil, love and loneliness, guilt and forgiveness. In this puppet series, a mythical fight between two brothers is (not) about to occur – one brother heals the world through gastric lavage, while the other prepares cruel revenge in the darkness of an insane asylum. Two keys are at play – one from paradise and one from darkness. What role will the four mysterious helpers, all having experienced the lavage, eventually play? Maybe even a more vital role than the two protagonists themselves.
